How to Choose ZOSI PoE Camera Systems & Security Kits

A guide to ZOSI PoE NVR kits, pan-tilt cameras, domes, and bullets.

ZOSI listings on this site group into wired PoE NVR kits (C220 fixed, C296/C290 pan-tilt, C186 bullets), compact NVR bundles, add-on domes/bullets, and WiFi/solar specialty cameras. This guide walks through coverage job first, then wired vs wireless, then resolution and camera count. We haven't installed these systems ourselves; this guide is based on ZOSI's published specs and the product details on the retailer's page.

1. Start with the job, not the megapixel number

Ask what you need to see. Porches and eaves often suit fixed domes (C220 family). Driveways and open yards often suit pan-tilt cameras that track (C296/C290). Fence lines and long sightlines often suit bullets (C186). Indoor rooms and windows are separate WiFi niches (C518, C680)—not outdoor PoE replacements.

2. Wired PoE kit vs WiFi / solar

  • PoE NVR kits — one Ethernet cable for power + video; local HDD recording (2TB / 3TB / 4TB on titles); app/client remote view on matching listings. Best when you can run cable.
  • WiFi indoor / window — C680 no-drill window cams; C518 indoor 360° PT.
  • Solar wireless PT — C291 battery/solar outdoor packs when trenching is impractical.

Do not assume a solar camera records like a 16CH PoE NVR—storage and uptime models differ.

3. Read channel count, camera count, and HDD separately

A “16CH” NVR can ship with 4, 8, 10, or 16 cameras depending on the version you pick. HDD size (2TB vs 4TB) tells you nothing about how many cameras arrive in the box. Always match the title of the option you pick for cam count × channel × HDD. Some listings mix unrelated series—our product pages flag those.

5. Domes, bullets, and add-ons

Full kits list an NVR, cameras, and a hard drive together. Add-ons (5MP PoE dome, C186 bullet, C290 PT pair) need a compatible recorder and free PoE budget. The Bullet Cameras category also holds a couple of full kits (C105 / C186 starters)—if the title says NVR, it's a complete kit.

8. Install and retention checklist

Before checkout, separate four numbers that shoppers often mash together: channel count on the NVR, cameras in the box, resolution per camera, and HDD size. A 16CH recorder can ship with 4–16 cameras depending on the version you pick. A 2TB drive is not “better” or “worse” than 4TB in the abstract—it only sets retention expectations for your recording mode (24/7 vs motion) at the resolutions you enable.

For PoE kits, plan Ethernet runs, PoE port budget (NVR native ports vs external switch), and mount clearances—especially for pan-tilt housings. For WiFi/solar, plan sun exposure, wireless range, and local/micro storage behavior that differs from always-on PoE NVR kits. For add-ons, confirm free channels and compatibility details.

9. Mixed-listing red flags

  • HD-TVI analog versions sold on PoE/dome listings (e.g. the 4-Pack 2MP HD-TVI Domes and the C186 5MP PoE Audio Bullet) — read the title carefully.
  • 3K Lite / 2MP listings that also sell C220 4MP PoE kits as an option.
  • Bullet kit listings whose options jump camera counts or even switch to 8MP 16CH kits.
  • Full NVR kits in the Bullet Cameras category (the C105 16CH 12×8MP kit and the C186 8CH 4×5MP kit) — if the title says NVR, it's a complete kit.

When in doubt, buy the version whose title states the exact channel × cam × resolution × HDD (or pack size) you want.

10. Quick decision tree

1. Need outdoor wired PoE with local HDD? → stay in kit listings (C220/C296/C290/C186). 2. Many fixed porch/eave angles? → C220 fixed domes. 3. Driveway/yard sweep + track? → C296 (or denser C290). 4. Fence-line directional aim? → C186 bullets. 5. Cannot trench Ethernet outdoors? → C291 solar wireless PT (different storage model). 6. Indoor window no-drill? → C680. Indoor room 360°? → C518. 7. Expanding an existing PoE NVR? → add-on dome/bullet/PT listings—not a second full kit unless replacing the recorder.

11. What you won't find here
